We’re preparing an update to the retrospaces app for the new macOS 27 🎉, so that it works just as well - or ideally even better - than it does on macOS 26.
For example, some of the new APIs allow us to replace parts of Yabai, which is still not up to date, and no new version has been released since May 2026 😢
Please post all questions related to macOS 27 here. Once the app is released (version 0.6.0), I’ll post an update here 👍
The new retro⊞spaces 0.6.0 now supports macOS 27 Golden Gate! On macOS 27, it no longer requires yabai or partially disabled SIP - just Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions.
Switching desktops, moving windows between desktops (via the grid or keyboard shortcuts), and assigning apps to desktops are all handled natively. Moved windows land exactly where you drop them. Adding and removing desktops also works without yabai, using Mission Control (beta version), which briefly flashes on screen.
Nothing changes on macOS 15 and 26, where yabai and partially disabled SIP are still required.
Nice! So since I'm on Apple Silicon running mac OS 27.0.1, I can turn SIP back on fully?
EDIT: I just tested this by turning SIP back on completely and retro⊞spaces 0.62 seems to work fine on macOS 27.0.1. I'm on the road right now and haven't tested it with my dual monitor setup. As soon as I get a chance, I'll check that out as well. Thank you!
1) on macOS 27, it's finally possible to re-enable SIP and remove yabai... at last👍
2) multi-screen support was a tough nut to crack, but hopefully I've got it working properly🎉The basic tests are done, and everything seems to work. Well, more precisely, I've tested everything I could think of, so now I'll wait for feedback. I don't normally use multiple screens myself, so I don't have that much experience with it or as many ideas for what to test 😢
So far, this latest version is working very well on my laptop alone and in my mirrored monitor setting. I use both throughout the day - switching back and forth - so I'll let you know if anything odd pops up. I've also reset all nine of my desktops to use the same wallpaper provided by Apple (Golden Gate Sunset). This should give us a good, stable place to test everything.
